Lyrics by Elle OTW

I told you this blog was going to be a little bit of everything, didn't I? Mostly, it's about things I follow in the entertainment industry. Music, Television, Celebrities, Movies, and so on. But it's also about me. Those who read blogs about entertainment want to feel a connection to the writer as well (at least that's how I feel). And obviously I love to write, and I want to share that with you. That's why two out of the seven OTW's are going to be more personal. For example, Friday's will be Lyrics by Elle of the Week.

I've been writing poetry and lyrics for as far back as I can remember. I still keep all my notebooks from high school, because they have more of my lyrics/poems than notes for classes. (Yea, I didn't do so well in school...) I love to share my best lyrics with the world, but I can't sing and I can't play an instrument (Well, I did play the clarinet way back in the day). So the only way I can really share my writing with everyone is by posting it online. (and reading it to whoever who will listen!)

Every Friday I will post either some of my best lyrics or maybe some brand new lyrics. For the first one, I will post my first ever shared lyrics. This was a song I wrote in high school and the first song I even remember reading and sharing with people. It also happens to be one of my first posts on my myspace blogs. It's a little different than the original, as I grow as a writer, I learn how to make previous songs even better than they were. Check it out.

Lyrics by Elle of the Week:

-Romantic-

You sang as you strummed your guitar
You seemed so near but yet so far

I watched your lips as words flowed out

I tried to read your mind-to see what you were thinking about

You laid down your guitar

And then held me in your arms

Now this may seem romantic as I sing these words,

But keep listening to my story-
Things don't get better,
They only get worse

It wasn't just me and you,
There was someone else too.

He strummed his guitar,

He was in his own little world,

But remembering something I said,

You said I must keep my word.
This may seem romantic as i sing these words

But keep listening to my story

Things don't get better,

They only get worse

I did what I did,
because I wanted to,

Who would've known I would fall so hard for you?

It's my own mistake-for falling for your games,

But what can I say?
I wanted to play.

Is this seeming less romantic as I sing these words?

That's because it is, as things don't get better,

They only get worse

Call me naive,
I didn't think that's all you'd want me for,

But after that night,
you don't talk to me anymore,

Tell me what that's all about?

I fell hard for you, there's no doubt.

Not the romantic story you thought I would sing

Cos in the end guys only want one thing

Yeah this isn't romantic,

No, not at all,

I'm singing this song,

As I increasingly fall.
This isn't romantic,

Not your typical love song...
I'm singing of all that's messed up,
And all that goes wrong
.
It's about all the mistakes-
That just happened to be made,

And about those boys who strum their guitars-
As you fall for their games

This may seem less romantic,
And more pathetic as I sing these words,
That's because it is when things don't get better,

They only get worse.

Character OTW

It may seem like a bad sign that I did not post my OTW yesterday. But, we're all positive people here, right? I'm new to this whole blogging thing, and I'm honestly trying to figure out how to plan everything in a timely matter. It also doesn't help that I am such a procrastinator. Tsk Tsk, I know.

Now that you're done thinking mean things about me, let's get on with yesterdays OTW. As I was brainstorming ideas for seven OTW's, I got kind of stuck after a few ideas. Then, Wa-BAM, it came to me... something I thought could be really interesting. Character of the week. Not a real person--- a character. Could be a movie, t.v. show, literary, or cartoon character, and so on. Pretty clever, don't ya think?

The Character of the Week is:

Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan from Fox's Bones

There are so many different characters on television these days, a lot of which are difficult for watchers to connect with. So when a character stands out as strongly as Temperance Brennan, it's hard not to take notice. In fact, the show has such a solid foundation with it's characters, it's impossible not to feel connected to the whole cast. The show follows Dr. Brennan and Special Agent Booth, who solve murders using forensic anthropology, and have mad crazy chemistry. (They are so meant to be together!)

It's evident that the writers put a lot of thought into Temperance, from her back story (quite sad, actually) to the way she is as a person. Successful, smart, and wealthy, it would seem she has it all. However, the important quality she lacks is compassion in common sense situations. Also, she doesn't censor herself, even around victims families, and her opinions can be difficult to understand. But Bones isn't like that just for the sake of the show itself. There are reasons to why she puts walls up and states facts rather than expressing feelings. She spent most of her teenage years going in and out of foster homes, after being abandoned by her parents and older brother, and got picked on a lot as a kid.

I think, at the core, her whole story is just really sad. I find her to be very interesting and I can really connect with her. Plus, she is really funny. Not purposely funny of course, most of the time she doesn't even understand jokes, let alone make the jokes herself. And when she does make a joke that she finds to be hilarious, no one really gets it.

It also helps that Emily Dechanel is crazy good at portraying Bones. She's a fantastic actress and has great chemistry with David Boreanaz (isn't he smokin' hot?!). I'm huge fan of Bones and I think you should be too! :) It's already on its 5th season (yay!) and recently celebrated their 100th episode!! Check it out, Thursday nights on Fox.

Video OTW

This week is super special because it's the first week I'm doing my OTW's!!! Monday was Website OTW and Tuesday was Song OTW, so if you missed out on those, check 'em out!

I've decided that Wednesdays are going to be Video of the week, and to kick off the first ever video, I found an amazing video of someone who is so freakin' talented. Yes, I am totally jealous of this girl. This girl who is five years YOUNGER than me. So. Not. Fair! But, all is well, because even though I am not her *sigh* I can still enjoy the talent she shares with the world :)

The Video OTW is:

Demi Lovato's cover of Christina Aguilera's Mercy on Me

How adorable is it when she says she's going to mess up in the beginning of the video? Pssh, with a voice like that, I'd be shocked to all hell if she messed up.

I'm not going to lie, I was surprised that she has the vocal range of Christina and pulled off that song. I think what happens is that I put Christina on this extremely high pedestal assuming no one can truly sing like her. But, holy crow, here comes Demi Lovato with a vocal range that can match Christina freakin' Aguilera's! Insanity I say!

If you don't believe the words I'm writing, then watch this video. Then afterward, listen to the original by Aguilera herself. Now, this isn't the best quality video, probably because there was no mic, so it's a little hard to hear the quieter parts of the vocal, but those high notes--- damnnnn girl. I also saw a video someone put together of live performances by both of these artists, showing them hitting the same notes, and it was pretty amazing. YouTube it if you still need further proof.

And while you're on YouTube, check out more of Demi's live performances. She may be a Disney star, but she is a true performer and artist! Of course Christina is way more seasoned in the industry and has more hits then Demi could hope for at this stage of her own career. But at 17 and with that voice, it's evident that she has a very long successful career ahead of her.

Check out her acting chops on the Disney Channel, Sunday nights, on Sonny with a Chance. (She's really quite funny) And, she has a guest appearance on Greys Anatomy very soon, (I'm not sure of the date yet) but I can say I am so stoked for her episode. Plus, she's playing a schizophrenic, which is a whole lot different than her character Sonny. If she pulls off this role, then there won't be anything this girl can't do. (Yea, I already said it, but I'll say it again-- I am sooo jealous!)
