10 Things I Love About 10 Things!

image via www.abcfamily.com

1. It's LOL comedy! "Cameron, this seat has your name on it... actually... it says deez nutz"

2. Cute adorable boys. Uh duh, uber tall Cameron is so beyond cute. And Joey, who is so dumb, it's adorable.

3. Even though it's on season two, it's still taking place during the same school year as last season. Which means, the show will be able to last longer in High School.

4. It's not a kids show. Okay, I'm sure lots of teenagers watch it, but it's not an average "kids show". It's high school in 2010. And even though I graduated in 2006, I'm sure not much has changed. Maybe they're even naughtier than my classmates, but if that's the case, they would have to be pretty effing dirty. haha.

5. Good actors! They're all pretty young, and it is an ABC original t.v. show, so the fact that they have good dramatic acting and awesome comedic timing is really quite impressive.

6. So, freaking, relatable. I say this a lot when I review books or movies, and there's a reason why it's important. When it comes to a certain genre of entertainment, I want to feel like I can relate to certain characters, or feel the way they do, or want to be just like them. I'm not talking about movies like, the recently reviewed by my awesome self, Repo Men, for example. Those are movies I go to wanting to explore another world and see some badass action. But when I read chic lit books, or watch romantic comedies, I want to relate to it some way or form. And I can say, though my peers weren't as good looking, the show is almost just like High School.

7. The family dynamic. You can see the love they all have for one another just oozing out of their pores. Okay, that sounded disgusting, but you know what I mean. Even though Kat and Bianca fight, it's obvious they love each other. The writers don't ever take it to an extreme. Also, the way their dad treats them, yes a little crazy, but he's raising them both all on his own, so it's understandable.

8. Chemistry. The whole cast makes their relationships with one another totally believable. It's called great chemistry. If any of them don't get along of set, I'd be super surprised.

9. Bianca and Kat's dad on the t.v. show is the same dad from the movie. I think that is really neat.

10. They didn't ruin the movie at all! It has the same characters, but with little twists. I've read that Kat isn't a virgin on the show, but I highly doubt she lost it to Joey, like she did in the movie. Joey is a douche in the movie, but just an airhead on the show. Cameron still loves Bianca, like the movie. And hopefully, eventually, they'll end up together. Kat is still hardcore. She ends up together with Patrick, but not in the same way as the movie. Chasity is a beotch in both show and movie, but has a way bigger part on the show. 10 Things I Hate About You, to it's core, isthe same, but just the right amount of different. I'm not sure if that made any sense, but my point is... they did not ruin the movie! And the show rocks!

PS I am officially in love with Nicholas Braun (Cameron) and I can say that without being gross, because he is 21 years old. Yup. 21!!! Holla!!

Beauty and the Briefcase

Last night ABC Family premiered their original movie Beauty and the Briefcase, staring Hilary Duff. I'm from generation Lizzie McGuire, and so I've followed her career since way back when. She has a blooming business, a decent acting career, and semi-popular music. (I'm actually a huge fan of her music! She's not the best singer, but that doesn't make her music any less awesome.)

I wasn't expecting much from this movie, especially because Hilary's acting isn't the best. She's always awkward on camera, not knowing what to do with her hands/body, and she seems to stutter a lot when she's trying to be dramatic. And I'm not talking just from her Lizzie McGuire time, I'm talking recent acting jobs too, like, Gossip Girl. She was not at all impressive.

But I was very much surprised. Beauty and the Briefcase is a very cute and funny movie. Most romantic comedies are predictable from beginning to end, but this one had me wondering for a long while who she was going to end up with. Eventually, I caught on and figured out who she was falling in love with. (Maybe I'm just slow?).

There were a couple of twists and turns that were quite entertaining. And I found Hilary's character, Lane, to be somewhat relatable and interesting. Most females really do have lists and fantasies of what they want out of men, and that usually doesn't work out so well. Also, most women who are open with their friends talk they way Lane did with her friends as well, and I found it refreshing to see it done right in a movie.

Beauty wasn't meant to be deep, and maybe the whole movie wasn't perfectly written, but I would have actually paid to have seen this in the theater. I thought it was that good. There were a few lines that were a bit too corny, but it really was a fantastic movie either way.

Plus, Hilary Duff is freakin' gorgeous. Her body is perfect, her hair is beautiful, and her face is so thin and flawless! Okay, I'm totally not into girls, I'm just saying, she looked really good in this movie. And I loved her outfits.

If you like romantic comedies, happy endings, funny and dorky characters, and cute moments, this is the movie for you! And I promise you, Hilary Duff is a great actress in this movie! I hope to see her doing more movies like this in the future, hopefully on the big screen!

Beauty and the Briefcase is based on the book Diary of a Working Girl by Daniella Brodsky.
(I totally have to read this book now!)

Uh-Oh Jane Green!

Jane Green is one of my favorite authors. Jemima J and Switching Lives were absolutely fabulous. In fact, you should read those books as soon as you can (especially Jemima J!!!). However, I was quite disappointed in her novel Straight Talking.

It's one of those books that was hard to get into, but once I was so far into the book, I just had to finish. Most books make me think about them long after, and if they're really good, I suggest that all my friends read them. But when it comes to Straight Talking I'd suggest saving your time and money. It's definitely not the worst book I've ever read, and I guess I can honestly say it was somewhat enjoyable. But is that what you want when you read a book? To finish it and think "eh, that was... okay"?

Maybe my standards were too high because I just love her other books, but, that's the point right? When you find an author you like, you expect all their books to be written with the same kind of feeling. To be entranced just like you have before. And I just wasn't. In fact, had I read this book before some of her others, I wouldn't even have bothered picking up another one of her books.

Tash, the leading lady of Straight Talking was not only stuck-up, but not at all relatable. What's funny about it especially, is that Tash talks directly to the reader and says, quite often, things like "Don't judge me, you know you 'd do it too". Which is supposed to make you feel like, yes, I do that too, I relate to you. But, it makes her come off as a bitch. And don't get me started at the way she talks about her friends. It's unbelievable. She says she loves them dearly, but I just can't get over the fact that she does talk a lot of mad shiz about them.

And the way she treats the lead male, Adam, is horrendous. (SPOILER)---How Adam could take her back and still love her after she cheated on him and treated him, is beyond me. Also, she's kind of a skank. I mean, yea, we females may sleep around at times, but she does it in a very slutty way, not a (again) "relatable" way. The fact that she is going to keep that huge lie from Adam for the rest of their relationship, is despicable.

After a book ends and it's the happy ever after kind of end, I usually assume that they (duh) live happily ever after. Not with Straight Talking. I am going to assume that Adam eventually finds out about stupid slutty Tasha and breaks up with her and all her friends leave her in the dust because, really, they're better off without her. Mwuahahaha <---evil laugh.
